The Limestone County Engineering Department provides technical support and direction to the County Commission in all areas of public works construction and maintenance. The Limestone County Commission operates on the district system. Each commissioner is responsible for the maintenance of the roads in their district. The commissioners work diligently to manage their resources to ensure the citizens of their districts are well served. These districts are funded by the Gasoline Tax Funds, which are evenly divided among the four districts.
The Engineering Department assists the District Commissioners and Chairman with technical advice and services provided through crews that work countywide. These crews include a paving crew, a sign crew, and an herbicide crew. The Engineering Department prepares construction plans as needed for roadway, bridge, and other public works projects. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal-mandated roadway and bridge inspection regulations, environmental regulations, and other laws pertaining to the construction and maintenance of public improvements. The Engineering Department also reviews subdivision plans submitted by developers and monitors the construction of these new subdivisions.
Limestone County’s Legislative Delegation has played a major role in the improvement of the road network within the County. The Delegation has worked diligently with County Officials to acquire additional funds for specific projects from the Alabama Department of Transportation, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, and others.
As you travel our surrounding counties and throughout the state of Alabama, we hope you will notice and compare the roads of Limestone County to other similar counties. We believe that you will be pleasantly surprised at the high standard of roadway condition that Limestone County maintains. The Limestone County Engineering Department looks forward to serving you and welcomes your comments and observations.
