James W. Woodroof, Jr.

James W. Woodroof was born June 18, 1955. Judge Woodroof grew up in Limestone County, Alabama, graduating from Athens High School in 1973. He attended the University of Alabama and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctorate degree in 1980. Judge Woodroof practiced law in Limestone County with Woodroof & Woodroof Attorneys at Law from 1980 - 1996. He served as Athens Municipal Judge from 1987 - 1996.
Judge Woodroof is married to the former Amy Black of Athens, Alabama. They have three children and two grandchildren. They attend the First United Methodist Church of Athens.
Judge Woodroof was appointed Circuit Judge in 1996 and was elected in 1998 and 2004. Circuit Court jurisdiction includes all criminal felonies, civil actions exceeding $10,000, domestic relations cases, concurrent jurisdiction with District Court Juvenile, concurrent jurisdiction with District Court in civil matters between $3,000 and $10,000.

Robert M. Baker
39th Judicial Circuit
Robert M. Baker was born March 17, 1958, Sheffield, Alabama. Judge Baker grew up in Colbert County, Alabama, and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1976. He attended the University of Alabama and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1980. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1983. Judge Baker practiced law in the Shoals area and in Birmingham, Alabama, before moving to Athens, Alabama where he became a partner in the law firm of Alexander, Corder, Plunk, Baker and Shelly until January, 2002, when he was appointed to fill a newly created District Judgeship.
Judge Baker served three (3) years as District Judge, and was elected Circuit Judge in 2004. Circuit Court Jurisdiction includes all criminal felony offenses, all civil actions where the amount claimed exceeds $10,000.00, domestic relations cases, all workers compensation claims, concurrent jurisdiction with District Court Juvenile cases, concurrent jurisdiction with District Court in Civil matters between $3,000.00 and $10,000.00
Judge Baker is married to the former Lisa Wallace of Florence, Alabama, and they have three children. Judge Baker and his family attend the First United Methodist Church of Athens.

From I-65 take exit 351 at traffic light turn (left) going west on US Hwy 72, 1.9 miles, turn right at traffic light going north on Jefferson St., 0.9 miles the Limestone County Courthouse on the right in the center of downtown Athens.
